The nature of freedom

ten, bad wolf, docforwho

So, some of my thinking has led me to this.  Be warned, this post will probably make everybody mad.  Or has the potential to.

Freedom.  I was always taught, dictionary definition aside, that it was giving everyone the space to do what is right.  Ok.

The problem comes in when you realize that no one, not even the Mighty Maker Himself (though I submit His case is a case of won't, rather than) cannot force another person to change his mind.  Therefore, while for me, freedom is the way paved to do what I feel is right, for my neighbor, through my eyes, freedom is the way paved to be a frakkin' idiot.  This has serious ramifications on how I view certain issues. It's a logical jump from this idea to some of the ideas I've been pondering.  Though, it's possible my logic is faulty.

Let me tell you what started my thinking process.  I was reading this article (Who Will Speak for the Mothers? Glenn Beck.  -- Pajamas Media) and thinking about my recent experiences and thoughts about motherhood, my kids and policies that affect all of us.  I was thinking about how parents are treated and how kids are treated and just realizing that there are some things that ought to be sacred.  Even if 'UR DOIN IT WRONG.'  In fact, like I say, in someone's eyes, everything you do is wrong.

It boils down to the fact that people should have the right to be stupid.  Yes, have consequences for their actions, but if they're not hurting another person (physically or their property--because emotional hurt is not really determinable by an outside source), then let 'em alone.  Stupidity is its own reward, really.

My father used to say over and over again, "You can't legislate morality."  It's really true.  Making laws about how people should think and act beyond that "past your nose" line is doomed for failure or worse.  (Worse, because success means tyranny, I think.)

It's more of going back to the basics.

This shocks me for some reason.  I  understand that she's grieving over the loss of her son, but teaming up with him...
That's a bit much.
